UniFi Switch Missing from Cloud Gateway Device List — Resolved

Setting up a home security system from scratch is no small project, especially when it's built entirely on UniFi's ecosystem. This customer had done the hard part already: mounting six cameras (five G5 Turret Ultras and one G6 Turret), wiring them into a UNIFI UNVR Instant and an 8-port USW Flex 2.5G PoE switch, and adopting everything into the UniFi Protect application. On paper, it looked done. But one piece wasn't falling into place.

The customer had picked up a UCG Cloud Gateway Ultra specifically to act as a central controller, the kind of device that lets you see your entire network, switches included, in one clean dashboard. The cameras showed up fine in Protect. The UNVR was recognized. But the USW Flex switch, the one handling four of the six cameras, wasn't appearing in the gateway's device list. For someone trying to build out a fully unified network (pun very much intended), that missing switch was a real problem. It meant the network wasn't actually unified yet, just adjacent pieces that happened to be working independently.

Worth noting: the customer was doing all of this from a PC, intentionally avoiding the mobile app until the setup was fully dialed in. That's a smart approach for anyone building a serious networking setup, but it also meant the fix needed to happen entirely within the desktop environment, the UniFi Network application and Protect controller, without any shortcuts through mobile-only adoption flows.

The customer walked away with a fully unified system, exactly what the UCG Cloud Gateway Ultra was purchased to deliver, and confidence that the foundation was solid before ever installing the mobile app.

The review says it plainly: "My issue was resolved very professionally and Jorge was vry knowledgeable on the UNIFI Security System." That knowledge is really the crux of it. UniFi's ecosystem is powerful, but it has its own logic and quirks, especially when you're mixing an NVR, a managed switch, and a cloud gateway across a from-scratch build. Having a technician who's spent real time in that ecosystem, rather than someone generally familiar with networking, made the difference between a frustrating troubleshooting loop and a clean, understood resolution.
