Straw bale walls wrapped in stucco mesh make for great insulation. They also make for a near-perfect Faraday cage, which is exactly the problem one homeowner ran into when trying to get reliable Wi-Fi from the main house out to a home office above a detached garage, about 100 feet away with a clear line of sight and zero obstructions in between.

On paper, this should have been an easy point-to-point wireless bridge. In practice, the home's construction was swallowing the signal before it ever had a chance to reach the garage.
